Cilantro is the fresh green herb that adds a delicious kick to many of our salsas, rice and guac. In 2018 we bought nearly 5.5 million pounds of cilantro, about 1.7 million pounds of it organic.
Herb's the word
While the Brits were the ones who brought cilantro to North America in the 1600s, they named it “coriander”—which didn't stick. Americans ended up using the Spanish word for it, which is “cilantro.” We’ve got even more fun facts about how different parts of the ~coriander~ have slightly different names, but let's take it one mind-blowing piece of information at a time, shall we?
