In recent years, U.S. agriculture lost 40 times more farmers than it gained.
The average US farm operates at a financial loss of over $1,800.
Losing family farms erodes the health of rural communities.
Through our purpose to Cultivate a Better World, we’re putting programs in place that make a real impact, including seed grants, education and scholarships, and 3-year contracts. Our vision is bold, but we’re starting with a mission to cultivate the future of farming by focusing on pork, beef, and dairy.
We’re offering startup grants to young farmers under age 40. Support can go towards needs such as a new barn, new equipment, or a just a day-to-day jumpstart.
To date, Chipotle has contributed more than $250,000 to Niman Ranch’s Next Generation Foundation scholarship fund. Through the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, we have increased our 2020 pledge five-fold, with a 2020 pledge of $125,000. In addition to the scholarship fund, Chipotle is also partnering with Niman Ranch to sponsor education and training opportunities for young farmers.
A vote of confidence can go a long way. Through our network of approved suppliers, we have partnered to create a unique startup program that provides grants for infrastructure or livestock and 3-year contracts, which help young farmers get started and reduce the risk of market changes or uncertainty.
The National Young Farmers Coalition is a national advocacy network of young farmers fighting for the future of agriculture. Young Farmers changes policy, builds networks, and provides business services to ensure all young farmers have the chance to succeed.
Up to $250,000.

Making real food accessible for all
Chipotle Mexican Grill established the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation in 2011 to extend its commitment to creating a more sustainable food future. Since then, the foundation has contributed nearly $5 million to likeminded organizations committed to cultivating a better world through food. Through an annual focus within our new mission of making real food accessible for all, the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation gives a series of grants and sponsors an accelerator program each year. The 2020 focus of the foundation is young farmers. Check back soon to learn more about how the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation will be supporting young farmers in 2020.
